Jack Ingram Audi Reviews the New quattro AWD

hat can all-wheel drive do for you? More than ever before if that AWD is part of the new 2018 Audi Q5. You can test drive the crossover to find out for yourself at Jack Ingram Audi dealer Montgomery AL.

New and Improved
All-wheel drive has been around since Audi created its version three decades ago. As you may know, instead of a traditional four-by-four set-up, AWD uses electronics to regulate when and how the torque is moved. Audi quattro has always been a better system, promoting a European driving style that hugs curves and fosters fun. Now with the introduction of the 2018 Audi Q5, it moves even further into the future.

Using ultra technology developed by Audi engineers, the new system can respond in 250 milliseconds. The previous system, like most other on-demand drivetrains, needs two seconds. A computer processor predicts traction needs at a rate of 500 milliseconds into the future. This makes sure quattro is always ready. A unique front-multi plate clutch engages and disengages as needed. In the back, a dog leg clutch regulates the prop shaft, connecting or disconnecting as needed. A rear differential is also included in the electronic monitoring and regulation.

Better Response
This new system also helped improve fuel economy by 3 mpg. In fact, the Q5 has the best gas mileage in its segment. NEw Q5s also enjoy better performance. The roomy crossover can do the 0-60 mph sprint in 5.9 seconds. Audi improved the engine as well, increasing the torque rate to 273 lb.-ft. Horsepower is rated at 252.
